Cool Dog Tricks the Frisbee Catch (con't)
Okay so from the first part of this lesson on cool dog tricks, the Frisbee catch, your dog has learned how to catch the Frisbee.
|
What you do from there is position the dog right in front of you. Close enough that you can give him the Frisbee. But you don't want to pass it off directly. Flip it to him instead.
If he catches it, praise him. If he doesn't make sure he doesn't pick it up. (You've got to be quicker than he is.) The idea you want to get across is that if he catches it in the air he can keep it. That's the reward for catching it.
Next put your dog to your left if you are right-handed. Flip it in front of you the same way you just did. If he gets it, praise him. Then simply add distance to each throw.
|
Here's how to get the dog to jump for the Frisbee. Hold the Frisbee over his head and say "jump". If he leaps up and get it from your hand praise him. You're now ready to throw short distances and while saying the "jump" command. Ideally he should go after the Frisbee.
IMPORTANT Cool Dog Tricks Tip: Don't scold him if he takes the Frisbee and won't give it back. You should put a rope or cord on his collar and take the other end. If the dog gets the Frisbee and won't come back, gently yank on the rope while saying "come". Then reel him in and praise him.
