Basically you can housebreak or paper train. There IS a difference. It is ideal to housebreak. To that end here are some more quick tips. Quick Tip #1: What you feed them plays a role too. A simple diet devoid of table scraps and canned food while favoring high quality dry food results in surprisingly less waste. |
• After eating
• After sleeping
• After playing
• And many times in-between
Quick Tip #2: Again all this training works best if you can control the dog's eating and drinking habits. So get the dog on a schedule. And try not to overdo the between meal treats.
Quick Tip #2: Learn to watch for the tell tale signs your dog needs to go out. These include circling, pacing, squatting, tail between legs, sniffing, and unsettled behavior. If the dog starts doing one of these things or after getting up in the morning, pick the dog up and take it outside.
Keep in mind that younger dogs will eat more and have to be walked more.
Then too small dogs (smaller bladders) will have to "winkie-tink" more often too.
