Quick Tip #3: Designate a spot as the dog's potty area. Maybe something 10 feet by 10 feet. Take them there each time. Quick Tip #4: During training you should try to keep the dog in "there" area. You want to get the dog used to a specific area where they will eat and sleep. Crating helps. Quick Tip #5: Take him directly to the specified area outside. Try to walk the dog back and forth at this area in a serious manner. The idea being movement begets movement. |
If nothing happens after ten minutes, then bring the dog back inside and put it in its special area. Or crate. You're trying to teach the dog it can roam freely unless it eliminates. Watch the dog for any indication it might want to go.
Quick Tip #7: When the dog does eliminate, shower it with compliments. It's good if you can have playtime afterwards. Rewarding the dog with time with you.
The key to successful potty training is praise. Should accidents or mistakes happen inside - ignore them. Just clean up thoroughly and let it go at that. Doing anything else is counterproductive.
