Rope Training

If your dog likes to bolt out the front door without permission try this training tip.

Keep a ten foot rope on him all the time. Just let him run around the house with it on. Before opening the door, step on the rope or with a large dog, make a loop the end and put the loop over the inside door handle.

This way when the dog attempts to bolt out the front door the rope can be used to pull him back in. Not to mention bring his bolt to a sudden stop.

Keep doing this until the dog understands that this is uncomfortable and quits.

The rope can also keep him from jumping on others.

Step on the rope on the floor if you anticipate he's going to jump. When he does so, the rope will prevent it. If he doesn't jump he won't notice anything.
