Tips for Potty Training a Puppy

Here's some tips for potty training a puppy.

First you want to hold off on making any serious effort at this until the pup is 14 weeks old. Most dogs can't read the poop schedule that young. (Ooops - let's serious up.) Still should you ignore that bit of advice about the puppy needing to be old enough, all the tips for potty training a puppy in the world aren't going to help you. Since most dogs younger than that just can't hold their bladder and bowel muscles long enough.

Two stock up on patience. You'll need it.

Set aside time. If at all possible, start housebreaking when you can be home all day.

Next you need to establish a living area for the dog. A den if you would. This should be a small part of the room where the dog will eat, sleep, and play. To reinforce this you also want to get the dog a bed or box to sleep in.

Now at first, he may go to the bathroom in this area. Expect this. But after a while, when he realizes this is his special place, it's a dog's natural instinct to try to avoid doing so.
