Command by saying the word "sit". Extend the treat so it's above the head. This way the dog will sit down to get to it. Just make sure the treat is not too high. When the puppy sits down, praise it and give it the treat. Repeat. Remember to say "sit" when the puppy begins to sit down. Keep treating and praising lavishly. In your happy/excited voice. Practice makes perfect when training a puppy to sit up. So do this four or five times a day for five minute sessions. Five sits each session should be enough. Oh and use a similar method if the dog is on a leash. Stand in front of the puppy with the treat in your right hand between your fingers. Extend the treat from the nose to the head.
